Book Review: Catching Air

Catching Air by Sarah Pekkanen is another solid novel from this rising writer, and I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy from the fine folks at Engelman & Co!

This novel has a great setting - a cozy B&B in Vermont, and I was immediately transported there with the two couples who have decided to make a go of it as a business - Kira and Peter (a solid couple who are wrestling with whether to have a baby) and Rand and Alyssa (a more flighty, but equally in love couple). The trouble is that Rand and Peter are brothers, and there is bad blood stemming from the past...

Added to this mix is Dawn, a woman on the run from a bad man with a bad plan, who happens onto the B&B at just the right time.

The first big test of the new business is when a guest proposes having a winter wedding on the property, and the second is when Alyssa realizes a lifelong dream - but isn't sure that Rand is on board...

I really flew through this novel, absorbing the setting, the easy prose, and the relateable characters, and rooting for everyone for different reasons (except maybe that demanding bride...). My only criticism would be that the ending felt rushed - as though we were resolving a lot of things in a hurry, but none completely. I even wondered if maybe there was a sequel in the works to see what happens with all the characters, because there is a lot "left hanging" in my mind. I would definitely be interested to see where the story takes us next!

I really, really enjoyed this novel, though, and couldn't wait to "get back to the characters" when I had to put it down!

This novel will be released on May 6th and is available through Amazon.
