A Couple of YA Novels...

I'm a sucker for a well-written young adult (YA) novel, and here are a couple of reviews from some recent reads...

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare is actually a re-read for me, since the movie was coming out and I was eager to get re-acquainted with Clary, Jace, Alec and Isabelle (and Magnus Bane! Magnus Bane!). The book was as good as I remembered, and I thought they filmmakers did a good job of staying fairly faithful while also making it accessible to new people to the series. Love this series - hope they make more of the movies!

Every Day by David Levithan kind of knocked my socks off. Every day, A wakes up in a body of a different teenager (no, we don't know why), and has to navigate through their day. But when, one day, he falls in love with a girl, he changes the lives of many more people in a quest to be with her always. This is such an arresting, engaging, interesting novel, full of promise and premise, and really makes the reader *think*. Recommended!!

Dare You To by Katie McGarry is another ALA grab, this time from Harlequin Teen. Having read Pushing the Limits previously, I was interested to read this tenuously connected follow-up. Ryan is the golden boy jock, Beth is the goth girl with an ugly home life, and when their paths cross, they keep intertwining. This may not be a genre-busting novel, but it was a solid romance and "tortured teen" tale.
