2012 Music Mix

It's time for another yearly "mix tape" of a few of Marissa's favorite songs for the year, those that got the most spin on ye olde car player/iPhone...

Some of the songs are new, some are old, some are rediscoveries, and some just f'n rock for all time. ;-) Maybe you'll find one or two to check out...

Too Close - Alex Clare
(Heard it one time on the new Microsoft commercial and immediately had to Google, then download it, before it became, like, popular. Such a fantastic song.)

Pumped Up Kicks - Foster the People
(It just makes me smile and wanna groove. Same for you. Admit it.)

Love Like a Sunset Part 1 - Phoenix
(Okay, so I heart Tom Hiddleston [Loki from The Avengers]. Tom hearts music. Tom tells the masses what to listen to. The build on this song rocked me back, so it's been on repeat ever since.)

The Wobble - V.I.C.
(First heard at Relay Nationals, and now such a strong association to my GLDTTers. Never will I forget "wobbling" in front of 500 Relayers from a stage. Never. What a hoot!)

Every Day Is Exactly the Same - Nine Inch Nails
(Don't know why this one kept floating to the top, but it did. Still such an amazingly emotional, slow build of a song. Great for "black dog days"...)

Burn It Down - Linkin Park
(I needed a hard rockin' song, and I needed some Linkin Park. This fit the bill on both counts. Great loud and proud song.

Deathstar Canteen - Eddie Izzard
(Okay, not technically a song, but often burned onto a CD. Michelle and I listened to and quoted from this snip of his show the entire week we were in Disneyworld. As soon as it comes on, I'm back in Florida with my sis, lovin' it!)

Personal Jesus (Stargate Mix) - Depeche Mode
(This remix simply reminded me all year that Depeche Mode was one of my first musical loves, and always will be. SUCH a fantastically done remix - dare I say...as good as the original?)

Papi - Jennifer Lopez
(Because you need that one song that's always going to make your shake your moneymaker. This one is a dancin' winner!)

Union of the Snake / Wild Boys /  A View to a Kill - Duran Duran
(A read of John Taylor's new autobiography, and I can't get enough of my Duran Duran CD. All are great - these are the sentimental, seminal faves in forming my love of New Wave in the 80s. Ah, memories...)

Just Like You Imagined - Nine Inch Nails
(Yeah. The 300 trailer. The obligatory NIN song inclusion. This song was still in constant rotation all year, still. Yeah. Many a morning I screeched into the library parking lot with this blaring, rockin' out.)

Clubbed to Death [Kurayamino Variation] - Rob Dougan
(This is always on the playlist, and has been since 1999. Still lifechanging, over a decade later.)
