Relay for Life 2011: Done!

Now that I've had 14 days to recover, I feel like I can finally reflect on the culmination of a year's worth of blood, sweat and tears in chairing a huge community-wide event: Relay for Life 2011 of TinyTown.

First and foremost, it was a great success, and I fully anticipate we will reach our set financial goals before the fiscal year closes in August.

(I hope so, anyway!)

But, it was HOT.

Like, dangerously hot. People feeling woozy hot. Me hiding in Red Cross whenever I could hot.

Despite that, we had some new teams that brought lots of enthusiasm, we had another emotional luminaria ceremony, and we had great success in re-envisioning our luminarias around the track.

And with only about a 40 minute catnap at 3am, I was at the track from 5am on Saturday morning until 8am Sunday morning, up all day and all night - in the heat.

No matter how hard the day was, I know every minute was worth it - and that Mum would have been proud.

I'm so glad Michelle and Dad were there to support me, though I couldn't hang out with them as much as I wanted to...but Michelle did manage to capture some great images from the day....enjoy...

And away they go...I was crying too hard during the ceremony to really see it, so I'm glad for the picture...

Until next year...which, oh, my the way, I'll be the community-wide chair of that one too...glutton for punishment! ;-)
