Just a few titles I've been reading lately...let's get going!
Wicked Appetite by Janet Evanovich
This is a new, vaguely supernatural series from bestselling author Evanovich, and she brings back some characters previously introduced in her "between the Plums" novellas - Diesel and Carl. This is a fun, funny romping read of a gluttony stone, a couple of mysterious "unmentionables", a monkey and a cupcake baker. It's Evanovich - of course it's a hoot!
The False Friend by Myla Goldberg
I really liked Goldberg's Bee Season, so when I saw the cover and read the blurb, I was hooked. The story, however, was slow as molasses, and to me, had no resolution. Celia suddenly remembers a memory of a school friend that is not what everyone else believes happened, so she goes home to confront the ghosts of her past, and her present. An interesting premise on girl bullying and "going home", but the pace just detracted so much from the story, I had a hard time staying interested....
703 by Nancy Makin
I have no doubt that Nancy Makin is a great motivational speaker, and the fact that she lost a quarter of a ton of weight and turned her life around is admirable, but I couldn't bring myself to read this - the writing was, let's just say, not up to par. I skimmed a lot and looked at the pictures, but otherwise, this was painful writing. Ouch.
