Book Review: Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor

Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor by Lisa Kleypas

I'll be the first to admit: I love a sweet Christmas novel, and it is turning into the time of year for lots of lovely little Christmas novels! Yay!

St. Martin's press was generous enough to send me an advanced copy of Kleypas' new novella (just released last week), and it was a perfect Saturday afternoon read!

Holly is an orphaned daughter, Mark is her not-ready-for-fatherhood uncle and new guardian, and Maggie is a toy shop owner with a loss of her own...mix these three together and you get sweet magic and happiness. :-)

This novel takes place on a great island, with fantastic supporting characters, but the relationships between these three - in all iterations - really tug at the heartstrings. It's funny though...I loved this novella, but not once did I think of it as a "Christmas novel", though it does conclude in December. I really enjoyed this setting, and and found the novel itself sweet without being sickly, with well drawn characters and an easy-to-read style - perfect!

Kleypas is generally considered a historical romance novelist, but after reading this, I want to go back to Friday Harbor! Series, please? :-)
