Book Review: The Eternal Ones

The Eternal Ones by Kirsten Miller

It's not often I'm offered the chance to review new YA books, so I jumped on the chance to read this new one (that actually DOESN'T feature vampires! *gasp*).

Haven Moore, small town girl, continually gets visions of a boy named Ethan, New York City and a fiery tragedy that she is sure happened long ago. A set of circumstances send her to New York in pursuit of answers - and of "Ethan" from her visions.

There she meets Iain, famous playboy, and current incarnation of her past love. They quickly fall in love, battle their emotions, their distrust of each other, and take on a mysterious society in order to see if they are truly destined to last across the ages - something Iain remembers and Haven wants to...

I'm intrigued by the concept of this novel, and in fact, have an adult novel in the hopper based on similar circumstances. This is a fine enough read for young adults, but it was, of course, predictable, a bit trite at times, and left the ending wide open for a sequel. I think YA girls, particularly, will enjoy the setting and story of this novel, but Iain doesn't hold the "swoon" that Edward or any of the others has, at least not for me. The characters just didn't make me *root* for them...

Overall, though, a solid read for young adults...
