2009 Book Review

Per tradition, it's time for my annual wrap-up of all the books I read in 2009. This was the most books I've read in a year yet - woohoo! The stats...

Number of books read in 2009: 178
Number of books read in 2008 (for comparison): 159
Average of books read per month: 14.83
Average of books read per week: 3.42
Daily average: 1 book read every 2 days
Percent of fiction read: 88%
Percent of nonfiction read: 12%
Number of audiobooks "read": 17

And now, for the best books of the year (in my humble opinion, of course!), in author alphabetical order...

Bauermeister, Erica. The School of Essential Ingredients. 2009.

Callahan, Tess. April & Oliver. 2009.

Ebershoff, David. The 19th Wife. 2009.

French, Tana. The Likeness. 2009.

James, Syrie. The Lost Memoirs of Jane Austen. 2009.

Lahiri, Jhumpa. Unaccustomed Earth. 2009.

Lynch, Sarah-Kate. House of Daughters. 2009.

Maynard, Joyce. Labor Day. 2009.

Mazetti, Katarina. Benny and Shrimp. 2009.

Niffenegger, Audrey. Her Fearful Symmetry. 2009.

Obmascik, Mark. Halfway to Heaven. 2009.

Picoult, Jodi. Handle With Care. 2009.

Scottoline, Lisa. Look Again. 2009.

Shaffer, Mary Ann. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. 2009.

Stockett, Kathryn. The Help. 2009.

Thompson-Cannino, Jennifer and Cotton, Ronald. Picking Cotton. 2009.

Tropper, Jonathan. This Is Where I Leave You. 2009.

Walker, Cami. 29 Gifts. 2009.

It goes without saying that anything written by a Brockmann, Cabot, Scottoline, or Evanovich is automatically on the list. :-)

i loved "the likeness" by tana french too! right after i read "in the woods," i immediately bought the likeness in hardcover when it just came out and i rarely do that. i was a bit sad by rob ryan/cassie situation though. i wonder when her next book is coming out.

That's EXACTLY what I did! I was a bit sad about Rob/Cassie too, but what a great story!
